Join us to learn more about the exciting new capabilities available in MSC Nastran 2019.0, available in January, 2019. With the advances in electric car manufacturing, and quieter electric motor engines, high frequency Noises and Vibrations are becoming more prominent, which makes NVH calculations exponentially more expensive. In this release, we are introducing a new ...

When developing the sub-systems of a vehicle, compromises have to be made among several contrasting objectives. On one hand, one wants to set all sub-systems - such as suspensions - so that they allow efficient and safe handling of the vehicle. On the other hand, comfort cannot be sacrificed too much. Being the support of the vehicle and providing forces necessary to control it, pneumatic tires are one of the most important components. However, it is very challenging to model them due to both their complicated composition and the materials used in their manufacturing process. On top of that, the modeling is done by suppliers and an in depth understanding of the interaction with the vehicle must be attained.

A nighttime noise complaint was issued from the residential area near one of Wärtsiläs main large 4-stroke medium speed engine factories located in downtown Vaasa. The facility produces about 500 engines per year and every engine is subjected to a test run. An investigation found that the likely source of the intolerable noise was from the exhaust from an engine 1000 hour endurance test. Although they discovered the source of the noise, they were unable to solve the noise problem completely.

Architects and acoustic consultants struggle to accurately estimate the vibration reduction index for their building designs. ISO 10848 defines a method for measuring this, but it is a long, tedious and expensive process which is implemented by building two rooms and their junctions one by one, exciting the wall and measuring the flanking and direct noise. This process must be done for each building design. When the design changes or the desired results are not achieved, the structure must be demolished and built again from the beginning.
