Costing is one of the most important factors when it comes to designing parts. Most costs within production and operation are defined in the product development phase, requiring a dedicated design and analysis. Therefore the design tool should be able to check for material usage, support structure volume, build orientation related production costs and stacking for the AM build platform.

MSC Apex Generative Design creates lightweight geometries, tailored for AM to save material and production costs. Together with manufacturing simulation of Simufact and e-Xstream, virtual manufacturing becomes reality and costs are driven down. This overall approach dramatically reduces the number of loops in the cycle of design, engineering, and prototyping; and easily connects the different development steps, with simpler feedback loops. It reduces the number of prototypes and test runs, significantly lowering product development and production costs. Higher efficiency and an overall cost reduction is achievable through the seamless workflow and data management.

This blog series will explain briefly “The 7 habits of highly effective Generative Design”. Follow us in the coming weeks to learn more about it!
