Simulation Software Helps Optimize the Golf Club Performance

Cleveland Golf launches new golf club designs on an annual basis in a highly competitive, performance-driven market. With competition gaining groudn on them, Cleveland’s management challenged Jeff Brunski, Performance Research Engineer, to find ways to truly optimize their golf club performance – and that meant evaluating hundreds of design variations.

Finding the Solution to a Noise Problem

A nighttime noise complaint was issued from the residential area near one of Wärtsiläs main large 4-stroke medium speed engine factories located in downtown Vaasa.  The facility produces about 500 engines per year and every engine is subjected to a test run. An investigation found that the likely source of the intolerable noise was from the exhaust from an engine 1000 hour endurance test. Although they discovered the source of the noise, they were unable to solve the noise problem completely.

Room to Room Vibration Tranmission

Architects and acoustic consultants struggle to accurately estimate the vibration reduction index for their building designs. ISO 10848 defines a method for measuring this, but it is a long, tedious and expensive process which is implemented by building two rooms and their junctions one by one, exciting the wall and measuring the flanking and direct noise. This process must be done for each building design. When the design changes or the desired results are not achieved, the structure must be demolished and built again from the beginning.

Simulating Brake Squeal Noise

Brake squeal is one of the most challenging problems that car manufacturers have today. It occurs as a result of the vibration of the brake components such as brake disc and brake pads and therefore it disturbs the driver and passengers. Furthermore, because of its complex nature it is hard to completely understand the causes …

Multidisciplinary Solutions For Brake Squeal

Although engineers have started to use simulation software to test brake squeal, its complex nature usually requires more than one different software and discipline. This makes it difficult to transfer data from one software to another and to work in different environments. To address complex brake squeal in one environment, multidisciplinary solutions (MD) can be used. …

Acoustic Simulation Helps Airbus Reduce Aircraft Noise

Airplane noise is an important factor for airlines to consider due to several industry changes in recent years. Increased competition, more air traffic, and construction of communities near airports has created several new issues for aerospace engineers to take into consideration, including quality perception from customers and new regulations from both local and federal governments.  Turbofan …
